Staying Present

"I practice staying present and aware in all of today's unfolding experiences. I concern myself with only what I need to do today. If I can do something today to affect tomorrow, then I do it and stop thinking about tomorrow. When others are talking I give them my complete attention. I allow my day to unfold, staying present in each moment."

Greetings from the Editor:

Social Networking

Sometimes I wonder why I joined facebook because I spend little time keeping up with all the people, pictures, and notices. That is until I receive an unexpected invitation from someone from my past. This happened yesterday. A woman (yes she is now a woman) named Gretchen contacted me to be friends. Wow, I have not seen her since I moved about 30 years ago. She was so important in my life for five years. Why? She began babysitting for me when I had one daughter. I especially relied on her when I had my second daughter, as I finished the last two collage courses I needed to complete my master’s degree. Her younger sister spent a lot of time at our house in those days too.

I answered her request with an immediate, “Yes.' Then I sent a message asking how her life has gone. It was to joy to read her response. I also have heard from her younger sister. So the next time you question joining or keeping your social networking group, remember the joy of connecting, even if briefly, with people you cared about at one time or another in your past.

Fortunate Blessings,

Suzanne

Food for Thought: Improving Your Diet

By Suzanne E. Harrill

Have you ever been confused about the best way to improve your diet with all the information hitting you from the media, the latest diet books, and friends?  Should you be eating more protein, less protein, more carbohydrates or limit them, eating eggs or eliminating them, or switching to a plant based diet? Is the best approach to watch calories, buy low fat products, drink diet sodas, or is it to eat what you want but reduce the quantity? It goes on and on, confusing even the best-intended person who wants to live a healthier lifestyle.

Sweetness of Life

By Nancy Moonstarr

I love to ride my bike. My favorite destination is the water's edge in my community, where I like to sit and stare at the water, sky, and earth as they meet. Not only does this relax me, it is my best form of meditation. Recently I pondered, "What brings sweetness to my life?" The answer I received was, "Love."

Whether we use love to refer to romantic love, or any other form of Love, "It feels sweet and calming, just right for me in the moment."

The Pricelessness of Forgiveness

By Carolyn Porter

Forgiveness may be one, if not the most important issue in your life. Dr. Alex Loyd, founder of the Healing Codes, states that in all the years he was lecturing and counseling he had never seen a significant health issue that didn’t have an unforgiveness problem. Dr. Ben Johnson, who had been lecturing all over the world on cancer, said he’d never seen cancer where there was not an unforgiveness problem. Both note that they have talked to ministers, doctors, therapists and practitioners of all types who also shared that they have seen unforgiveness at the core of just about every problem they’ve ever witnessed or experienced...

Secrets of the Most Successful College Students

By Annie Murphy Paul

College admission letters go out this month, and most recipients (and their parents) will place great importance on which universities said yes and which said no. A growing body of evidence, however, suggests that the most significant thing about college is not where you go, but what you do once you get there. Historian and educator Ken Bain has written a book on this subject, What The Best College Students Do, that draws a roadmap for how students can get the most out of college, no matter where they go...
